On friday we had our own presidential debate in class. I thought it went rather well. I don’t know about you guys, but I thought our candidates were knowledgeable, professional, and believeable. I was so amazed by them as well as by you the audience. The whole class contributed to the lively discussion. I know many of you wanted to say something but we ran out of time. On Monday we will finish our presidential debate. Now, I have a question for all of you. Who do you think is the best candidate in your class? Explain why you think they did the best in the debate. Make your opinions known, leave a comment here in the comment box! Remember only positive comments will be approved!

I was one of the “candidates” for the election but I think Alex Hazen in period 3 did a great job. He actually surprised me a bit. For each of his opinions he spoke well, expressed his opinion strongly, and his words had an influence on everyone, even if they didn’t agree with him.
Katie, that is very generous of you to give props to Alex. I have to agree that he did an awesome job with his response. You are right that his points were well made and people found themselves agreeing with it! YOU also did a wonderful job so you need to give yourself a pat on the back. Be ready for Monday’s debate!
yeah, the debate was great! it kinda sucked that we didnt have enough time =(. and ughm, i agree with katie d. Alex was surprisingly good! maybe its because i agreed with all of his arguments. oh, and ughm, i personaly have not finished reading chapters 3 and 4, are we having a quiz on it monday? cuss, i thought we were going to finish the debate???
I believe that all circumstances considered Lex Black of 5th period was a very good candidate. He seemed like someone who would his own agenda aside and take other peoples ideas into considertation.
Wendy, yes you have to finish reading chapter 3&4 by Monday! We are going to finish the debate on Monday.
Greg, Lex did a great job. He was pretty calm and cool. He answered the question well. He was firm in his belief. You are were firm in your convictions so that made the debated interesting as well!
I think the debate went rather well in period 4…though just about everyone wanted to pounce on Senator Mendez.
My opinions on the issues are explained below (I am kicking myself in the tooshie for not being senator…blame my laziness and my ignorance about taxes
)
Same Sex Marriage:
they should get the same benefits, we are all people, we all deserve equal rights…so what if their personal life is a little different. It is their life, their love, and their right as a human being to do whatever they want.
Abortion:
that was a fun one to listen to…and I was the one on the fence about it…I believe people have the right to live…but I still believe it is the woman’s choice(and the man’s if he stayed around) whether or not to abort the baby. Keep in mind we have an overabundance of people in the world and we keep adding to it everyday…it is getting to crowded even with all the people that die everyday…
and one way to decrease the amount of abortions and needs for abortions is if we taught more safe sex in class then abstinence.
they also spoke of morals and how abortion goes against morales…if you think about people go against ‘morals’ everyday…look at Vegas…it is nicknamed Sin City for a reason…you can do just about everything there…and it is in America…and it won’t be abolished quickly…it would take them a very very very long time to get rid of all the moral-fighters there…what’s one more moral crusher?
Also…candidates…and audience alike…everyone has a right to their opinion, they have the right to voice it out…so don’t get all huffy if it doesn’t match your ideas, beliefs and such…we are all different…get used to it,get over it.
I strongly feel Max Gordon in 4th pd. history did an excellent job in expressing his feelings and beliefs. He was a great candidate. I admired how he was very firm with what he believed in and backed himself up the whole way!
Out of our first period canadiates i believe that Jon David Ebadirod was the best canadiate because he spoke like a leader and he had some really great ideas and input. Although i might not agree with all of his views, for example his view on gay marriages, but i believe that he would be a great president aslong as he listens to his people. He came prepared and he gave well thought out answers and when he had the floor he told others that it was his turn and he didn’t let others run on top of him. So i really do think that Jon David is really good.
I’m one of the “Senators” for 5th period and I think the idea of the debate is a great idea. However there are a some things that really irked me today. It’s got nothing to do with people’s opposing views or anything. What it is is people’s unprofessionalism and disrespect. Personally, I had alot to say but instead of interrupting other candidates or audiance members while they were speaking, I patiently sat and waited to be addressed (which didn’t really happen). We are supposed to be in a professional political setting and I think people need to conduct themselves like mature adults and not children.
Thank you Joe for your comment. I agree that some people were rude and interrupted others. I have to say that you did a wonderful job of pressing your point of view because you were calm, cool, and collected even when people try to anger you. I will definitely remind everyone of their behaviors.
I think the presidential debate was awesome. I mean each candidate knew what they were gonna say. Some where more quiet than others but each expressed their opinion. Most knew what they were talking about and each interrupted each other. Especially Senator Mendez and Senator Gordo were the best in our 4th period class.
The debate in 3rd period went extremely well. I was a bit hesitant when I first heard the idea but I got so into it. I believe that Alex Hazen was the best candidate in our class. Even though we had some very different ideas, he stayed strong with his points of view and was able to back them up. He projected his voice well and never put down the other candidates in any negative way. Again, even though we had different ideas, I could literally see that his opinions affected and influenced other students in the class. The debates were a really great idea Mrs. Aragon.
See you tomorrow!
Yeah…I was trying to explain my point while be an audience member and Eli kept interrupting me…and I’m sorry but that is a pet peeve there…it drives me up the wall when I’m trying to say something and something starts talking over me like that…
what other topics are we going to be going into debating in class?
Well I like our presidential debate but i didn’t knew what to ask since i was confuse with what the candidates said because all of them make really good points.

THE PRESIDENTAL DEBATES WE ARE HOLDING IN OUR APUSH CLASS ARE GETTING PRETTY INTENSE, AND HONESTLY I AM TRULY ENJOYING THEM. THE CANADIDATES OF THE 4TH PERIOD CLASS ARE PRETTY SERIOUS ABOUT WHAT THEY ARE FOR AND ALL OF THEM ARE PUTTING UP A PRETTY GOOD FIGHT. BUT THERE IS ONE CANDIDATE THAT IS MAKING A SCENE AND I PERSONALLY AS A CANDIDATE SHOULD LOOK OUT FOR IS, ELI MENDEZ OR “SENATOR MENDEZ”. SO FAR ELI HAS BEEN MY HARDEST COMPETITION MAINLY BECAUSE HE HAS MANY OF THE SAME BELIEFS I DO, SO IN TURN IT MAKES IT FAIRLY HARD TO DISAGREE OF PROVE HIM OTHER WISE. ANYWHO, LIKE I SAID BEFORE I AM TRULY ENJOYING OUR CLASS PRESIDENTAL DEBATES AND I WOULD REALLY ENJOY HAVING THEM FOR AT LEAST ANOTHER DAY.
I believe Joe Santa Cruz from 5th period did an excellent job. He is extremely smart, a great speaker and quick-witted. When he speaks, you listen. He did a great job Friday and today.
I thought the presidental debate went every well, it was alot of fun to express our opinions and here others oppinions! In second period ther was one girl on friday i dont remember her name, i disagreed with basically all her opinions but i thought she did very well, i think she was the most professional and handle, every question and respons very well, and i respect her for that! I really enjoyed it though it gave me a bigger view on the election, and i think good pionts and oppionions were made even though i didnt agree with alot of them lol!

Hey, I really think the debates went well. I was one of the candidates, and everyone did a good job. I really enjoy the idea of an interactive debate. What other topics are we going to discuss? Just wondering. By the way, Good Job 1st Period candidates/senators.peace.
As much as I like that JonDavid guy, I shouldn’t boast about myself. So from first period I thought that Jazz Miller had a really good approach, he could of had a more professional style of presenting it but besides that he did good. Also I thought Amanda also did a very great job at presenting but the same reason as Jazz could of had a more professional way of presenting. I did thought like the fact that we were doing something other then just book work, this is really what I want to see out of the class. This is because it involves real life situations with what were learning, more of these exercises would be awesome!!!
Your Future President,
JonDavid Ebadirad
Hello.I think that it was a tie between Max and Eli in 4th period.Max had more confidence and was calm so I think Max did an excellent job.
For our 4th period Presidentail debate I believe our best candidate would have to be “Senator Gordon”. Senator Gordon and myself share VERY little similar views, in fact I believe we only agreed on one or two subjects. The person I would pick as my President if this were real would probably be Senator Muldrow because I believe in most of his morals but I believe Senator Gordon would get the job done and has the heart and mind to be a President.

The debates were pretty intense. Some people suprised me. I think it was interesting sitting up in front and teeling the whole class my views on certain issuse but it was fun. It was hard expressing opinions when people would shout out their answers instead of waiting their turn and raising their hands. All in all it was a good expierience.
– Senator Crowe <–(writing that makes me laugh)
In our fourth period class, I believe that Senator Gordon represented most of my beliefs the way I would like the to be represented.
Even though I didn’t agree with one issue that he had discussed, in general I personally would vote him our class representative.
I’m in fourth period and I believe Eli won the election. When Eli and Max disagreed, they both did an excellent job displaying their points of view. But, I believe that Max just knows how to reach the people’s emotions. I think that Eli felt strongly about each topic. Even though they were both were very well prepared, I think Senator Mendez is the better choice if it were an actual election.
I think the best candidate for 5th period would be between Lex Black and Joe Santa Cruz. Most people just gave answers that were their own opinion, but what i liked about Lex and Joe was that their answers were about making this country better, not just going by their own beliefs. I noticed Lex was being extremely patient. He had his hand raised for awhile and waited till he was called upon instead of interrupting. Both Lex and Joe gave firm responses. They were confident and most importantly, retained composure throughout the debate.
i can only recollect one thing that alex hazen had to say that i agreed with during the debates. but i think he did the best out of anyone in third period, he was extremely eloquent and if i wasn’t so stubborn he probably would have swayed me to his side, haha.
What ever became of the debates? Were we going to continue them? I think it would be fairly awesome if we held our own in class election.
I think everybone did a really good job…it’s amazing how people have such diverse opinions about certain issues!! Good job 1st period senators!
