  1. wow….these images are devastating. Soldiers do not only run with the risk of loosing their lives during war they also have to worry of the effects the war will cost them menatlly and physically. My respects to all those men and women who give their lives to serve for the country. It is important to consider the soldier when going into war since they as well as civillians in the area are vulnurable to many more dangers than just loosing their lives.

  2. I agree Mrs. Aragon. I think a lot of the times people do forget the risks our soldiers have to face when fighting in war. Shell shock is far beyond just being home sick. I don’t know which would be worse, being physically or emotionally wounded. Well no matter how much getting shot would hurt, Ithink I’d go with that option because at least I’d still be sane. People are aware soldiers are at risk of getting wounded or losing their life, but I don’t think they realize their experience can be mentally damaging as well. The video was sad to watch and it seemed almost unreal that an experience can change someone so drastically. Most Americans spend a lot of time hating on the war. I think they should at least acknowledge the men and women fighting in it and show appreciation towards them.

  3. Wow, that is just horrible! I can’t imagine having to live in a trench for 4 years with dirt, dead bodies, and the constant fear of being attacked. Even worse, I can’t imagine going home and living with a trauma like shell shock. It just goes to show how terrible war is and how much our people are giving to protect this country. After seeing this I wish our troops could just come home. It doesn’t seem worth it being in Iraq, especially after seeing what other people from other countries think of us. Also, it’s devastating to have to come back without an arm or a leg. Many of our returning troops aren’t getting the medical attention and care that they need for their injuries. In many cases, injured soldiers are prescribed drugs such as morphine to dull the pain of their injuries and it ends up getting them addicted to it. As a result, many soldiers here at home end up on the streets addicted to drugs. People need to start thinking more about our men and women in Iraq, and becoming more active in helping them out after they come back.

  4. This is a sad video and it did touch my heart. People are so ignorant and don’t realize that war doesn’t just affect us economically. I don’t have any of my family members in the military but I feel for those who do and those who have been affected by the war. Shell shock is a tragic effect that military men and women face. I am glad that some people do care about out military men and women. We should never forget them because they don’t. That’s why they are in war, because they care so much for this country that they are willing to die for us and go threw this. We should never complain about our military force, instead we should acknowledge the men and women who are fighting. We should be honored that they care and show support for our soldiers and don’t make it seem that the lives lost were in vain.

  5. This video was just weird, not like a bad weird but just the things that these soldiers went through and saw is just astonishing. Personally, I dont think any man or woman should have to go through seeing such horrific violence that happens all around the world everyday. This is a sad video and the soldiers that lost their lives should not be forgotten no matter what war the U.S. enters. We should stand united as one country and support those who serve our country everyday, whether that’s a soldier or just your common everyday man. Each person who serves their country, no matter what they do, should be supported.

  6. Aww!!

I know someone that had Shellshock and he used to have nightmares in the middle of the night, just wake up screaming and crying and freaking out because he was having a nightmare about the war. It was really scary to watch.

  7. Even though I don’t support any kind of war, what the past soliders did for the U.S. was surely something that molded us to what we are today. All of them knew what they were getting themselves into, and still went into the war head first. What they did for their country was the best anyone could do. For the veterans that are still living, it is sad to see how the youth today doesn’t really respect them. They see the veterans with their sicknesses and laugh, but what they don’t get is what the soldiers sacrificed for them. Without the soldier’s sacrifice freedom would be a impossible thought and a good life wouldn’t be at their grasp. Families of soldiers received the most pain in seeing their father, son or brother in these conditions. But they do understand why they did it, they did it for them and the whole country. Apart from being sad, families of soldiers were the proudest families in the world.WE should never forget what they have done for us, they’ve fought and received the consequences that were headed towards us, we should be thankful that they went out there and fought for our freedom, respect and honor.

  8. It’s really depressing to know that this is the cost for defending your country and its people especially when you have friends or family either going in or coming out of war. I wish there was more we could do for these brave soldiers than to just give them medication and wish them luck. I feel deeply for them and their families for the constant battle they face on their own for our possession of freedom and safety.

  9. I concure with Oscar. We cant possibly display our gratitude towards our veterans. Their bravery and self-sacrifice provides us with freedom. The thing I find the most disturbing in this video is the taping of the tests. I mean these guys have already gone through immense turmoil and survived to tell about it and then they want to hold a uniform hat in from of them for testing of “shell shock”? Doesnt seem right to me.

  10. The shell-shock video is heart- breaking. It is a testimony of the bravery of every single war veteran and current soldier deployed right now. These videos/documentaries fascinate me though. I am forced to question the volatility of the human mind and its breaking point. Every person on this globe encounters stress everyday, but why, after experiencing an absorbent amount of stress does your mind flip the switch, and why can’t we put it into terms we understand. I have also read articles on post- traumatic stress disorder which is prevalent among war veterans, and that after one has experienced something beyond there everyday life they no longer have the appropriate and necessary tools deal with it. That is why many war veterans resort to alcoholism and smoking. But we still have much more to learn about PTSD. I believe we need to get a slew of doctors and psychologists together and send them to Iraq and in the United States as well to examine every single returning soldier and determine if they have any kind of trauma disorder. Approximately one-third of homeless adult men are war veterans, that number needs to be reduced to zero!!

  11. This video really does show a lot of the things that veterans go through after fighting a war, but World War I is not the only war that has hurt our soldiers. Every war has a different affect on each and every one of them, they may not lose a leg or an arm, but after fighting a war, I guess you can say they never really come back to life. They have the same mentallity they did when they were on war. Their whole life revolves around war and because of that many of them cant go on to live their own lives. Someone always has to be taking care of them, making sure their not going to commit suicide or something crazy like that. This is something that not only affects them but it also affects his or her family.

  12. I’m in total agreeance with Oddisey, it’s absolutely despicable how war veterans are forced to suffer after they have given so much to defend our country. A friend and I were downtown one day and this homeless man asked us for some money. He was an old Vietnam veteran that didn’t finsih school because he went to fight in Korea. After he returned, he couldn’t get a job because he had no education. He said all he did was drink because flashbacks wouldn’t let him sleep at night. This is by far the greatest injustice. PTSD literally steals these poor men and women of their sanity. They may be physically out of Korea, or Iraq or Afghanistan, but mentally, they’re still being bombarded by enemy fire. Most suicides related to PTSD are actually military veterans. It’s so immeasurebly disgusting.

  13. This video was shocking. I Know many people who think the troops come back the same person as the one who left but most of them dont. I dont think alot of people understand what happens in war and the bad things the troops see, it is very frightening. We should not take our lifestyles as luck but as if we want to have our freedom.

  14. It is hard in the battle field even now that the battle has evoluntionized into cities by battles who made the first steps into there have not been able to rest since.
