This past week we had an interesting and enlightening discussion of foreign policy and our government’s goal of spreading democracy around the globe. Many of you made some insightful comments about whether our foreign policy is accepted by the international community as well as if we should spread democracy. Some of you concur that it is part of our responsibility as a world leader to ensure that those who do want democracy should have it and we should help them set it up in their own countries. However, some of you feel that we need to focus on our domestic affairs instead of global. Whatever your opinions or thoughts on this issue, this debate will continue on for years to come even when you are adults!:)Tonight I read this interesting article about how this 65 year old woman from Bhutan walked 380 miles just so she can participate in the country’s first democractic election. It’s shameful to me that some of us can’t even hop in our car to go to the next polling station and yet this little grandma and her grandson walks that far to cast her ballot! It goes to show you that some people are willing to do what it takes to be part of a democractic society.

I think this story is truly amazing in how this one old woman traveled that far just to have her voice heard. I think it’s a great thing that Bhutan is now attempting to open itself up to the world and try to become a democratic nation. Democracy is stilll a very new thing to the people of East Asia and it might start a trend you never know.
This story demostrates what a person would do just to be apart of something that is important to her. Not very many people would do what Bhutan did. It inspires me and motivates me to do anything even if its taking it to the extreme in order to be apart of what i believe in.
This story is very moving. It shows what a person is capable of doing for what he/she believes in. It is a shame that people in our country don’t get out and vote when the government and media go to great extents to get us to vote, yet we let it pass us by. This inspired me that if i believe in something, nothing should stop me from doing something about it. This lady walked 350 miles just to turn in her ballot;she shows a lot of heart and motivation.
This story was very moving. After reading I said out loud to myself WOW.
I believe this story is an example of nationalism and passion for what we believe in. This woman understood that being a part of a democratic society is truly a priveledge and that whoever has this priveledge should embrace it. Many Americans don’t vote because they take for granted what their founding fathers and military have done for them. Being able to vote is not only a priveledge but a responsibility. Not voting when given the chance is immature in some cases and sometimes it’s even due to ignorance. EVERY member of a democracy should definitaly excercise their voting right when they become of age. All I can say about this amazing woman is, Keep it Up! ♥ ♥ ♥
